As the Educational Technologies (EdTech) Sandbox Supervisor, Rebecca is responsible for the daily operations of the EdTech Sandbox, as well as supporting instructors, staff, and students in utilizing and implementing the technologies and pedagogical equipment included in the space. She also collaborates on a range of Teaching Innovation Incubator projects that coincide with the materials included in the sandbox.
Rebecca holds PhD in History from the University of Waterloo and a Master of Teaching from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. Her dissertation, entitled “In Protection of No Woman: Consent, Illegitimacy, and Gender-Based Violence in Early Modern Somerset, 1600-1699,” focused on the institutionalization of gender-based violence in early modern (seventeenth century) Somerset (England). It also highlighted how digital tools can be used to reframe narratives of gender-based violence in early modern England.
As an educator, Rebecca aims to foster inclusive educational spaces that support experimentation and skill development. With a particular emphasis on digital humanities, she aims to promote pedagogical innovation and growth in faculty, staff and students. Her educational contributions have been recognized with multiple teaching awards, including the Warren Ober Award for Outstanding Teaching by Graduate Students and the Waterloo Arts Award for Excellence in Teaching.
