"Working in the classroom with students made me love history even more," says Kyle. Changing how the classroom operates is one of his first priorities. Gone are the days when students learn one type of history and are expected to simply sit and listen to the teacher talk.

"I want to bring out what makes history so much fun: the sources, the drama, the gossip, the debates, and, most importantly, the human side of it," he continues. History is more than military and political events. It can be pop culture, women’s perspectives, industrialization, politics, the environment, everyday life, and so much more.

"I want students to find their own niches within history while developing the skills to question, analyze, and interpret what they read. Students may not be reading as much as they once did, but I believe the answer is not simply to ask them to read more. We need to give them a reason to read. For me, historical sources are one of the best ways to do that," he says.
