Supervisor: Kim Martin
Sara completed her BA in Art History and Culture & Technology Studies at the University of Guelph in 2026. Her interdisciplinary interests inspired her to continue her academic studies with an MA in History at the University of Guelph. Through her MA work, she intends to study how power structures within art institutions, like museums and galleries, shape the preservation and curation of textile objects. Her research confronts how biases, such as racial or gender discrimination, have shaped the place of textiles within public consciousness via Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums (GLAM) institutions. Specifically, she will examine how these biases have excluded female and Indigenous-made textile and craft objects from fine art consideration, and how their designation as either an art or historical object impacts their curatorial narrative and educational impact on the public. Sara intends to pursue her research through a Major Research Project (MRP).
