Participants will learn how auditors are leveraging AI technologies to enhance audit planning, risk assessment, data analysis, anomaly detection, and reporting processes. The session will also examine the key benefits of AI, including increased efficiency, improved accuracy, and deeper insights, while addressing important risks such as data privacy concerns, algorithmic bias, transparency issues, and overreliance on automated outputs.

Daniyal Ahmed
Daniyal Ahmed (CPA) is a Senior Manager in PwC’s Sustainability Advisory team. His work focuses on partnering with organizations to prepare for sustainability reporting, integrate sustainability with their strategy, and produce assurance-ready disclosures. Daniyal leads multiple AI initiatives within the sustainability practice, identifying and building AI-augmented workflows for enhanced delivery and insights. He is a member of multiple global working groups and has contributed to PwC’s Canadian and global thought leadership and technical methodology. Daniyal holds a Master of Accounting degree from the University of Waterloo.
Daniel Mortimer
Daniel Mortimer (CPA) is the Canada Assurance Digital Leader for Financial Services at Ernst & Young LLP, where he represents Canada on EY’s Global Digital Account Leadership group for Financial Services. With more than 15 years of professional experience in the financial services sector, Daniel is currently responsible for leading digital audit transformation across this sector, including the integration of data, analytics, and artificial intelligence into assurance. His responsibilities span methodology and platform strategy, client delivery and innovation, and advancing audit quality, consistency, and scalability across engagements. Daniel holds a business degree from the University of Western Ontario.
Phil Wong
Phil Wong (CPA, CA) is a Vice President at TD Bank Group and serves as the audit executive for Canadian Business Banking and Global Credit Risk. In this role, he provides independent assurance over key financial and non‑financial risks, supporting strong governance and regulatory compliance across TD’s Business Banking and global credit portfolios. Phil leads a team of 40+ audit professionals and works closely with senior management, Boards, and global regulators. He also served as Audit Lead for major corporate development activities and is the executive sponsor for TD's CPA program. Phil holds a Master of Accounting degree from the University of Waterloo.
Tim Bauer
Tim Bauer (PhD, CPA, CA) is the Executive Director of UWCISA and a Professor of Assurance in the School of Accounting & Finance at the University of Waterloo, where he holds the J. Page R. Wadsworth Junior Chair in Accounting and Finance. His research is behavioral and largely focuses on external auditors, IT and other specialists, internal controls, and emerging assurance areas and technologies. He is an editorial board member and ad-hoc editor at several accounting journals and has served on advisory groups for both CPA Canada and the Auditing and Assurance Standards Board.
