CaseWare IDEA

CaseWare IDEA is a CAAT (computer assisted audit tool) designed by auditors for auditors (and other data analysts). IDEA is a user-friendly tool that makes data mining and data analysis easy and efficient.

IDEA introduction (9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.)

  • Import Excel and text files
  • Basic sampling
  • Joining data
  • Categorizing data
  • Visualization

IDEA advanced (1:30 - 5 p.m.)

  • Import PDF files
  • Benfords Law
  • Basic IDEA scripting
  • Gap detection and duplicate check
  • Advanced sampling

Tableau

Tableau is a data visualization tool that allows users to create dynamic dashboards and is an excellent way to help business users unlock hidden insights in a visual manner.

Tableau introduction (9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.)

  • Import Excel and text files
  • Building visualizations
  • Basic calculated fields
  • Building dashboards with actions
  • Formatting

Tableau advanced (1:30 - 5 p.m.)

  • Parameter controls
  • Calculations (e.g. LOD, nested LOD)
  • Visualizing Benfords Law
  • Advanced mapping (distance calculations)
  • Additional formatting and customization

R

R is an open source data analytics tool that can be used to run basic audit procedures using SQL queries and descriptive statistics, fraud detection leveraging sentiment analytics, logistic regression, and neural networks.

R introduction (9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.)

  • Import, clean, and manipulate large data sets
  • Use SQL queries to merge data sets or create subsets based on specific conditions
  • Generate statistics and graphs to observe patterns and detect outliers
  • Generate footed amounts and re-calculate fields to observer discrepancies
  • Generate forecasts based on time-series
