Elizabeth English, Water Institute member and professor in the School of Architecture, shared her personal experiences while speaking at a recent TEDxManhattanBeach conference about how amphibious housing can allow communities in flood zones to thrive.
English, the founder and director of the Buoyant Foundation Project and founder and organizer of the Building Resilience Workshop series, focuses her research on developing amphibious foundation systems as a flood risk reduction and climate change adaptation strategy.
Her work in Canada, Vietnam, Nicaragua, and the U.S states of North Carolina and Louisiana supports the preservation of traditional housing forms and respects local cultural practices.
English was one of 14 presenters at the annual TEDx event held in Manhattan Beach, California.
