The Water Institute is now accepting applications for the 2025–26 John Parish Memorial Graduate Scholarship, which supports graduate research in fluvial geomorphology, river processes, and aquatic habitat protection and restoration.

Established by friends and family in memory of John Parish (BES ’85), the scholarship honours a pioneer in the study of rivers and how they shape surrounding landscapes. Parish founded PARISH Geomorphic Ltd. in 1997 and later merged with Matrix Solutions Inc, now a subsidiary of Montrose Environmental Group, Inc. He was instrumental in developing watershed management policies in Southern Ontario and was a strong advocate for natural river restoration across Canada.

“John had an infectious passion for rivers and their natural processes, which he eagerly shared with colleagues and students,” said his partner, Shari Faulkenham. “The kids and I are very excited to share this opportunity to ignite this passion in others.”
