Two civil and environmental engineering doctoral candidates received outstanding student presentation awards in the hydrology section of the annual American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting.

Danyka Byrnes and Robert Chlumsky spoke about their research at the event held online in December. Considered to be one of the premier international geophysical conferences, it normally draws over 25,000 participants.

Byrnes, whose doctoral supervisor is civil and environmental engineering and earth and environmental sciences professor and Water Institute member Nandita Basu, is focusing her research on anthropogenic impacts on water resources

Chlumsky is working with Water Institute members James Craig and Bryan Tolson, professors in Waterloo's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, on hydrologic modelling and model structure optimization.

Both Brynes and Chlumsky are working on their third Waterloo Engineering degrees.
