David Blowes Receives NSERC Synergy Innovation Award

David
Blowes,
Water
Institute
member
and
Professor
in
Earth
and
Environmental
Sciences,
was
recently
awarded
an
NSERC
Synergy
Innovation
Award.
The
NSERC
Synergy
Awards
for
Innovation
recognize
partnerships
in
Research
and
Development
between
universities
and
industry.
David
is
the
Principal
Investigator
on
the
Diavik
Waste
Rock
Research
Project,
a
ten-year
collaboration
with
researchers
from
the
University
of
Alberta,
University
of
British
Columbia,
Carlton
University
and
engineers
at
Diavik
Diamond
Mine.
They
have
been
collaborating
to
develop
a
sustainable
method
of
mitigating
acid
mine
drainage
at
Diavik’s
site
in
Northern
Canada.
The
results
of
the
research
are
leading
to
better
mine
waste
management
and
better
protection
of
the
environment
worldwide
as
other
mining
companies
are
beginning
to
use
the
methods
to
improve
their
mining
waste
sites.
