As Ontario reviews water-taking permit charges for bottled water companies like Nestlé, Water Institute member Rob de Loë urges us to think beyond the bottle.

In the latest issue of Water Canada, the School of Environment, Resources and Sustainability professor says while a review is needed, securing Ontario’s water resources for the future is the bigger picture issue that is being missed.

A major review is urgently needed,” he says, “but its scope has to be much larger than just water bottling. Water bottling in general, and Nestlé in particular, have become a sideshow and a distraction from much more important issues. Our focus needs to be on ensuring safe, secure water supplies for people and the environment in the face of growing pressures and uncertainty.
