Researchers at the University of Waterloo have developed a sunlight-driven, bio-inspired photocatalysis process that degrades hashtagmicroplastics into acetic acid, the main ingredient in vinegar.

The research is led by PhD student Wei Wei under the guidance of Prof. Yimin A. Wu, Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering and Tang Family Chair in New Energy Materials and Sustainability, and is published in Advanced Energy Materials.

A promising step toward circular solutions for plastic pollution.
