Two
recent
Master
students
have
been
recognized
by
the
American
Water
Works
Association
(AWWA)
for
their
Masters
theses.
Ryan
Snider
and
Ahmed
El-Hadidy,
Department
of
Civil
and
Environmental
Engineering,
are
the
first
and
second
place
recipients,
respectively,
of
the
2012
AWWA
Academic
Achievement
Awards
for
best
Master's
thesis.
This
award
recognizes
the
theses
as
the
best
Master's
theses
from
the
United
States,
Canada,
and
Mexico
on
the
basis
of
originality,
practical
application,
value
to
the
water
supply
field,
potential
value
as
a
reference,
and
overall
clarity.
Ryan
Snider's
MASc
thesis
was
titled
"Impact
of
Design
and
Operational
Parameters
on
Rapid,
Deep
Bed
Biological
Filtration
of
Drinking
Water".
His
research
and
thesis
were
supervised
by
Monica
Emelko,
Department
of
Civil
and
Environmental
Engineering.
Ahmed
El-Hadidy's
MASc
thesis
was
entitled
"Removal
of
Enteric
Viruses
by
Ultrafiltration".
He
was
supervised
by
Drs.
Sigrid
Peldszus,
Michele
I.
Van
Dyke
and
Peter
M.
Huck,
NSERC
Industrial
Research
Chair
in
Water
Treatment,
Department
of
Civil
and
Environmental
Engineering.
The
AWWA
Academic
Achievement
Awards
encourage
academic
excellence
by
recognizing
contributions
to
the
field
for
public
water
supply.
The
awards
will
be
presented
at
the
2012
AWWA
Annual
Conference
and
Exhibition
in
Dallas,
Texas,
June
10-14,
2012.
