Two Water Institute members awarded 2018 NSERC Strategic Partnership Grants

The Water Institute congratulates six researchers at the University of Waterloo on recently receiving more than $3.8 million to collaborate with Canadian-based companies and government organizations on strategic research projects.

Announced by the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Sport, and supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the funding for 2018 Strategic Partnership Grants will go to 75 projects across the country that address challenges in areas such as environment, agriculture, information, communications technologies, natural resources, energy, and advanced manufacturing. The investment aims to connect Canada’s brightest researchers with industry, government and other partners to transform fundamental science into tangible benefits for Canadians.

Special congratulations to two Water Institute members awarded 2018 Strategic Partnership Grants:

  • Professor Brian Dixon (Biology) for his work on: Genetic and probiotic improvement of immunity in triploid Chinook salmon. ($556,0000) 
  • Professor Philippe Van Cappellen (Earth and Environmental Sciences) for his work on: Assessing risks of eutrophication by urban stormwater runoff under climate change. ($676,569)
