The Water Institute is excited to announce that James Craig, Canada Research Chair in Hydrologic Modelling and Analysis and professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, has recently been elected president of the Canadian Society for Hydrologic Sciences (CSHS) for a two-year term starting this June.

The mission of the CSHS is to promote the science of hydrology and its sound application in effective water management. The CSHS provides a linkage between hydrological research and practice through organization of specialized training courses in partnership with universities, including the “Principles of Hydrological Modelling” course offered annually at Waterloo. The society also leads multiple initiatives in support of the hydrology community in Canada, such as annual seminar series, software and data repositories, and the community-built open-source hydRology library for the R programming language. The Canadian Society for Hydrological Sciences is an affiliate society of the Canadian Water Resources Association (CWRA), where Professor Craig now assumes an executive position.

"The Canadian Society for Hydrologic Science plays a critical role in connecting leading edge hydrologic science with a variety of stakeholders, including governments, practitioners and students. I feel privileged to be leading the society and look forward to working with members to increase its impact over the coming years”, said Craig.
