WaterLeadership workshop helps students boost research impact
The WaterLeadership | Knowledge Mobilization 101 workshop brought together more than 40 undergraduate and graduate students eager to learn how to translate their research into real-world impact. Led by Elanor Waslander, Knowledge Mobilization Specialist at the Water Institute, the session explored how effective strategies and engagement can bridge the gap between research and action.
Through lively discussions and interactive group activities, participants learned how to set clear research impact goals, identify their key audiences, and choose the most effective tools to share their findings. The workshop also introduced frameworks to help students strategically plan their knowledge mobilization efforts—connecting their research goals, audiences, and outcomes in meaningful ways.
By the end of the session, students left energized and equipped with practical strategies to increase the reach and relevance of their work. Many attendees are continuing with the WaterLeadership workshop series to earn a certificate that recognizes their growing skills in leadership, communication, and impact.
The next session, Sharing Science: Effective Presentations, will be held on November 19 at 10:00 a.m. in DC 1304, led by Elise Vist from the UW Writing Centre.
