The
field
research
activity
of
graduate
students
Jeff
Muirhead,
Civil
and
Environmental
Engineering,
and
Andrienne
Smith,
Biology,
was
recently
featured
in
the
Fort
Francis
Times
newspaper.
Both
are
Master's
students
who
are
spending
the
summer
along
the
Rainy
River
collecting
data
for
research
purposes.
The
research
projects
include
assessing
the
food
web
in
the
river
and
the
effects
of
hydroelectric
dam
discharge
practices
on
the
fishery.
Biological
data
related
to
various
fish
and
invertates
in
the
river
and
hydraulic
data
measurements
are
among
the
data
being
collected.
Although coming from different faculties, over the course of their time in the field they have gained knowledge and appreciation of the research field of their partner. They have also participated in a community information session about their work. They are expected to return to Waterloo at the end of August.
