Waterloo Researchers in Fort Francis Newspaper

Friday, July 20, 2012
The field research activity of graduate students Jeff Muirhead, Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Andrienne Smith, Biology, was recently featured in the Fort Francis Times newspaper. Both are Master's students who are spending the summer along the Rainy River collecting data for research purposes. The research projects include assessing the food web in the river and the effects of hydroelectric dam discharge practices on the fishery. Biological data related to various fish and invertates in the river and hydraulic data measurements are among the data being collected.
Although coming from different faculties, over the course of their time in the field they have gained knowledge and appreciation of the research field of their partner. They have also participated in a community information session about their work. They are expected to return to Waterloo at the end of August.
