Webinar series wraps up after almost 3 years: The Value of Water in Canada
This week the Water Institute hosts the last The Value of Water in Canada webinar. Since its inception and launch in early 2022, the webinar series has provided a valuable platform for thought-provoking discussions on the value of water and water valuation. Bringing together economists, water resource managers, researchers, water protection advocates, consultants and private and public sector practitioners, the series explored cutting-edge practices and the growing demand for water valuation insights across various industry sectors.
Supported by the Global Water Futures program, the initiative aimed to deepen understanding of the socio-economic and cultural value of Canada’s water resources and aquatic ecosystems. With 28 webinars and more than 3,000 viewers, the series fostered critical conversations on the economic, social, cultural, and environmental dimensions of water.

“This series brought together leading voices and world-class expertise to tackle what is basically a global challenge, not just in Canada—the valuation of our precious water resources and how we measure, account for and trade-off the plurality of values in policy and decision-making,” said Roy Brouwer, Water Institute Executive Director and series host.

“Through diverse perspectives from academia, government, and industry, we created a platform for critical discussions that will hopefully help inform policy, drive innovation, and inspire action. The series underscored the importance of water in every facet of our lives, from its economic contributions to its cultural, recreational and environmental significance.”
Recordings of the webinars are available on the project’s YouTube playlist, offering a chance to revisit the many thought-provoking discussions.
