Frank Gu, a Waterloo chemical engineering professor and member of the WCMR, is part of the 2017 cohort of the Royal Society of Canada's (RSC) prestigious College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists.
Gu, who is also the Canada Research Chair in Nanotechnology Engineering, is internationally recognized for his pioneering contributions to nanotechnology engineering, particularly as they apply to targeted drug delivery and water treatment systems.
A highly accomplished researcher and inventor, he pioneered the use of mucoadhesive nanoparticles for high retention eye drops, demonstrated the first magnetically recyclable photocatalysts for water treatment, and developed stealth copolymers for targeted cancer therapy.
His RSC citation recognizes that Gu is now one of the foremost nanoengineering researchers in Canada.
The RSC named the incoming 70 members of The College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists on September 12. Those named to the College represent the emerging generation of scholarly, scientific and artistic leadership in Canada.
