In late October, the Waterloo Public Transportation Initiative (WPTI) welcomed over 10 students from the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences for a week-long exchange. During the week, students collaborated to develop ideas and identify best practices for the ongoing Region of Waterloo Light Rail Transit project.
As part of the exchange, Holger Wagensommer, a senior engineer with VB Karlsruhe — the transit agency in Karlsruhe, Germany — provided a public lecture on the German best practices for light rail transit.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
