Minutes of 16 November 2022 and Business Arising

The minutes were accepted as distributed. No business arising.

Chair's Remarks (Don Duff-McCracken)

  • Daniella Cross has accepted a position at the Office of Advancement as Director of Marketing & Communications.
  • Michael Tjendra has been seconded to IST's Web Development team as Information Systems Specialist (Web Analyst).
  • Both Daniella and Michael will continue to attend WAC in their new roles. Both of these folks have been amazing contributors to WAC and we thank them for their service!
  • Don Duff-McCracken is stepping down as Chair of WAC.
  • Submit your nomination for WAC chair by January 13, 2023. All submissions will be presented to the Web Steering Committee for selection, and then approved by WAC.

Digital Accessibility Project (Iva Badjari)

  • Last year, Joyce Barlow with Accessibility Services reached out to IST and UR for help in developing a plan on how we as an institution would approach accessibility both on our website and social media channels.
  • After many consultations with representatives across campus, the Digital Accessibility Plan (DOCX) was developed and it went before executive council who has supported the initiative and endorsed it this fall.
  • The plan is not super detailed, intentionally, because a key component of this plan is continued consultation and prioritization as determined by our campus community.
  • In order to facilitate this, the Digital Accessibility Resource Collective (DARC) has been created. Email Iva Badjari or Tom Graham if you are interested and/or passionate about digital accessibility, and would like to join the 'darc' side.
  • UR has also submitted a request to the Provost to obtain a campus-wide web accessibility monitoring tool. Once we receive approval on the funds, it will go through the RFP process.

WCMS 3 Development (Kevin Paxman)

  • WCMS 3.2.1 is in the process of being released, all non-training staging sites should have it now, and it is rolling out across live sites today and training sites shortly. Full release notes are on the Web Resources site, highlights include:
    • Added functionality to place banners above the page title
    • Added the ability to add multiple users at once using only their WatIAM IDs
    • Fixed an issue where many editor dialog boxes could not be typed in without first switching in and out of source view
  • Focus points in the current sprint include:
    • Resolving the remaining roadblocks for the BibCite (bibliography/publications/references) work
    • Testing with and fixing issues caused by PHP 8.1
    • Theming for separator and spacing options for sections

WCMS Training & Support (Sarah Cooper)

WCMS 3 course completions

  • 29 WCMS 3 Fundamentals
  • 7 WCMS 3 Web Forms

WCMS 3 Learn Working Group

  • We had our first Learn working group session last week. This session focused on sharing feedback (Training and Support sharing what we have heard, and then each member of the group sharing their own experience thus far).
  • We also started looking at some roadblocks to training.
  • The session went well, as it was very collaborative. I am looking forward to the next session to dive further into brainstorming new ideas.

WCMS 3 Migration Update (Charlotte Armstrong)

  • 335 sites live on WCMS 3!
  • 76 sites remediated by our team this term (6 were collaborative remediations, 70 were full remediations)
  • Busy term for site movement:
    • 125 launches
    • 104 training sites created
    • 83 sites migrated
  • Kudos to Engineering for staying on schedule and having a quick turn around from migration to launch!
  • Kudos to Arts for launching Economics and Anthropology!
  • Kudos to Amanda Vos for migration and launch of the Work Learn Institute!
