International Peer Community – Pre-Arrival Communities

"IPC"

Connect with fellow international students!

Before you arrive at the University of Waterloo, you’ll have the chance to connect with other international students through our pre-arrival community program for international students, the International Peer Community (IPC).

What is IPC?

Moving to a new country can be exciting but also nerve-wracking. IPC aims to ease some of those transition tensions. You’ll get to know fellow students, learn about Canadian customs and traditions, and build friendships—all before stepping foot on campus!

  • Region-based groups: You’ll be placed in a community organized by your region or home country.
  • Top Countries: We’re offering this program specifically to students from Waterloo’s top countries of origin: China, USA, India, and the United Arab Emirates.

What can I expect from IPC?

  • Peer Support: Upper-year peers (Community Leaders and Group Facilitators) will guide you. They’ll share insights about Canadian culture and social norms.
  • Online Events: We’ll host online community events so you can connect with other students and feel more at ease.
  • Anxiety Relief: Knowing other students who are also arriving in Canada will help ease some of the uncertainties you may feel.

When does IPC start?

The program kicks off in July 2024 and you’ll automatically be enrolled. Check your email for more details.

If you don’t receive an invitation by July 22, or if you’re not from one of our top countries, email us at ise@uwaterloo.ca.

Not interested in IPC? You can opt-out by sending an email to ISE at ise@uwaterloo.ca.
