You are invited to join this conversation and listen to her story titled “They thought they’d bury us, they didn’t realize we were seeds. - My experience as a DREAMer in the United States of America” where Katherine will share details on how to overcome adversity and her journey to Microsoft. We will also have Professor Kerstin Dautenhahn (she/her), IEEE Fellow, AISB Fellow, AAIA Fellow, Canada 150 Research Chair in Intelligent Robotics, Director of Social and Intelligent Robotics Research Lab (SIRRL) from the Departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering/Systems Design Engineering joining us as a speaker and her talk is titled "Social robots - A Journey from Biology to Engineering".

Katherine is a Senior Program Manager at Microsoft focusing on Azure. She started her career as an infrastructure engineer at Avanade focusing on on-premises infrastructure. Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, Active Directory migrations were the bread and butter of her career. She then moved to Deloitte Consulting to focus on Azure infrastructure. The years spent there would turn out crucial to help her realize her true passion, bridging the gap between technology and people and ensuring organizations are able to succeed in their journey through cloud.
Katherine is passionate about helping others through mentoring as well as being heavily involved in her organizations. She loves being able to share her personal story with others and enabling them to reach their true potential.

Kerstin Dautenhahn, Dr. rer. nat., IEEE Fellow, AAIA Fellow, Lifelong AISB Fellow, is Full Professor and Canada 150 Research Chair in Intelligent Robotics at University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. She has a joint appointment with the Departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Systems Design Engineering and is cross-appointed with the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science and the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at University of Waterloo. In Waterloo she directs the Social and Intelligent Robotics Laboratory. Her research areas are social robotics, human-robot interaction, assistive robotics, cognitive and developmental robotics. She has published more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles (H-Index 85), and frequently gives invited keynote presentations at international conferences. She has several senior Editorial Roles in international journals.
