Welcome
We are so excited to be offering the Women in Engineering Graduate Student & Alumni Mentorship Program at the University of Waterloo and hope that it can provide a valuable and enriching experience for mentors and mentees.
Women make up more than half of the Canadian population but are significantly underrepresented in engineering education and in the engineering profession. Over the past decades, the number of women enrolled in post-secondary engineering programs has risen, as has the number of women in the engineering profession. Yet despite steady increases in the representation of women, men still vastly outnumber women in engineering.
This program was developed in response to this issue, as a way to help provide women engineering students at the University of Waterloo with extra support and guidance as they make the transition from student to employee in a male dominated industry. We hope that by connecting our women engineering graduate students with industry leaders, they can gain valuable knowledge and connections, while gaining confidence in themselves and growing their professional networks.
Program Guide
We are currently developing comprehensive manuals for our mentors and mentees; they will serve as a guiding tool to help you navigate the program structure and provide information on how to build and nuture a professional relationship with your match. In the Manuals, we will highlight important topics that will help female engineering graduate students grow and develop skills that will help them integrate into the workplace after the completion of their graduate studies.
On this site, you will find information about the Graduate Student and Alumni Mentorship Program. Click the buttons below to check out our events schedule, roles, responsibilities, and challenges that may occur during the mentorship program.
Mentor and Mentee Manuals will be made available after the application process is complete.
Feedback
We appreciate your participation in the program and we take your feedback seriously. In order to help further the development of this program in future years, we please ask that you fill out feedback surveys sent to you during the duration of the program. These surveys will be emailed to Alumni and, will be available to fill out on LEARN for our current students.
