Women make up 50 per cent of the population, but they are under-represented in many science and engineering disciplines. Mining and metallurgy is one of the least gender-diverse sectors, with women currently representing about 15 per cent of technical people. Diversity improves perspective; it gives us the full picture, which vastly increases our chances of producing breakthrough discoveries and innovation.
The Women of Impact symposium aims to recognize and document the experiences and accomplishments of some of the leading women in materials, metallurgy and mining in Canada. Please join us on August 26th, 2015 at the Royal York Hotel to meet, celebrate, and hear from some of the women who have made a significant impact on our industry.
Mary Wells, president of the Metallurgy and Materials Society of CIM and faculty member at Waterloo Engineering, invites all current students (both undergraduate and graduate levels) to attend the symposium free of charge. View the program and register for this exciting opportunity!
