Waterloo is a pioneer in experiential learning and we continue to partner with industry to create co-operative education that teaches our students to become change-makers and leaders in their chosen field.
Waterloo supports our students and employers in rich learning experiences through a breadth of WIL programming:
- All six faculties and 120 programs participate in co-operative education.
- Traditional (non-co-op) students can engage in work-integrated learning through the EDGE certificate.
- Additional WIL opportunities also occur at the program and course level
- Enterprise Co-op
- Service learning in courses offered through the Health, Arts, and Environment faculties.
- Applied research projects in courses offered through the Health, Arts, and Environment faculties, and the Conrad School of Entrepreneurship and Business.
Waterloo is home to the Work-Learn Institute, the only institute in the world dedicated to research on co-operative education and other forms of work-integrated learning. Our research establishes quality standards for meaningful, high-quality WIL programs offered to Waterloo students.
