Introducing Spring 2018's co-op student

Hi everyone! My name is Magdalena Bentia and I will be working as a Writing and Communication Peer Tutor at the Writing Centre.  I am currently in my third year of completing an Honours Biology degree along with a minor in Medical Physiology. During this spring term I will be assisting with drop-in sessions and one-on-one appointments across campus. Teaching and working towards continuous improvement is something I am passionate about and I am looking forward to working with students looking for help with academic writing!

Through working and volunteering on campus I have been able to learn and appreciate the tremendous amount of resources available to students and staff. My time as a Science Orientation Leader and Science Open House volunteer gave me the opportunity to connect with students first hand and communicate about life on campus. I also volunteer with the Wish Youth Network Society which is a club on campus that supports families of children within Waterloo with chronic illnesses through fundraising events. These experiences have shown me the variety of outreach programs that the University of Waterloo has to offer.

Upon completing the Fundamentals of University Teaching at the Centre for Teaching Excellence I became fascinated with different styles of teaching and how to adapt to suit the needs of the student. It was because of this that I became involved in a working group to improve accessibility in teaching on campus.

I am looking forward to working with students to assist them in the writing process and improving my own teaching methods along the way as well!
