STEM Writers' Grad Studio: Writing Retreat

Graduate writing can feel isolating, but it doesn't have to. Join us for this two-day writing retreat designed to help STEM graduate students develop the knowledge and strategies needed to communicate their research effectively. Through focused instruction and structured activities, you will learn the structural, paragraph-level, and sentence-level patterns that underpin effective STEM communication. More importantly, you'll learn how to apply these patterns to your own writing to organize complex ideas, communicate your research clearly, and plan, draft, and revise more effectively. 

Throughout the retreat, you will apply these concepts directly to your own work. Dedicated writing time will allow you to make progress on a current writing project while putting new strategies into practice. Along the way, you can discuss your work with peers, participate in a peer review session, and receive support from a Writing and Communication Advisor from the Grad and Postdoc Support team.

Whether you're working on a thesis chapter, manuscript, proposal, technical report, or another academic document, you'll leave with meaningful progress on your writing project, a stronger understanding of STEM writing conventions, and practical strategies you can apply to future academic writing tasks.
