Deferred Exam

As per the Exam Regulations document on the University of Waterloo Examinations Regulations page,

Granting an alternative time for a final examination will be considered only in exceptional circumstances. Such circumstances include illness (with a verification of medical illness form) or other mitigating circumstances outside the control of the student. Elective arrangements (such as travel plans) are not considered acceptable grounds for granting an alternative examination time.

The decision whether to grant a student's request for an alternative examination time lies with the instructor of the course concerned as does the responsibility for making alternative arrangements. There is no registration fee.

Appeals and Petitions

Appeals

As per information under "Student Access to Examination Papers" from University Examinations Regulations (link above), you may ask an instructor to review your exam paper (supervised by him/her) but not before the official release of grades and standings.

If you feel that there has been a mistake made in marking your exam you are welcome to approach the instructor about it and if he/she feels that it's a legitimate request he/she can agree to the review of the exam.

You should make your appeal within two months of receiving your final academic standing.

Petitions

If you feel that there are mitigating circumstances that surrounded the outcome of your term you can request an exception to the decision that was made. You can submit a "Petition for Exception to Academic Regulations" found on the Registrar's web site to the Assistant Registrar for Engineering, Registrar's Office, University of Waterloo. You should include supporting documentation with your petition.
