How do you bring happiness into your life?

Cultivating happiness can be an elusive goal – but Waterloo alumni have some powerful insights that can help us all live better.

The Advancement team and our colleagues in University Relations explore the theme of happiness in the newly refreshed Waterloo Magazine. From navigating the challenges of chronic illness to following a passion for art, the Magazine’s five new stories explore how Waterloo alumni embody our University’s values – think differently, act with purpose, and work together – to create joy. These accomplished graduates embark on journeys that transform their own lives, and also improve wellbeing in their communities.

One family’s story involves a Waterloo legacy that was 40 years in the making. Ruhuni de Alwis (BA ’89, BMath ’89) shares how the University shaped every aspect of her life, from her career to her personal relationships. Today, Ruhuni ensures that others can thrive at Waterloo by giving to the Co-operative and Experiential Education (CEE) fund, which creates new opportunities to engage in work-integrated learning.

Perhaps the most exciting moment of a University career is Convocation – and I look forward to recognizing our newest alumni at our ceremonies later this month. I encourage all graduates to stay connected to Waterloo and share how you bring happiness into your own life, and to communities around the world.
