Title: Computational Rhetoric and Neural Networks in Abusive Language Detection

Abstract: TBD

Speaker Bio:

Jelena Mitrović is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Passau, Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics, Germany. Her research interests lie in the broad area of Natural language processing (NLP), especially Computational rhetoric, i.e. processing of non-literal language through detection of rhetorical figures and relations, applied to sentiment analysis, abusive language modelling and detection, legal tech and argumentation mining.

Dr. Mitrović is a founding member of the Group for Language Resources and Technologies in Belgrade, Serbia, where she started her work on developing NLP tools and resources related to Computational Rhetoric and Computational Semantics. Before embarking on the wonderful journey of NLP, she obtained a Master’s degree in Modern and Ancient Greek Language, followed by another Master’s degree in Information Science, focusing on Text processing and Information Retrieval. Obtaining a PhD in NLP was a natural next step, which has ultimately led her to the University of Passau, where she has been teaching Information Retrieval and NLP courses since 2016.
