Chrysopsis gossypina ssp. hyssopifolia (Nutt.) Semple is native to Panhandle Florida and adjacent Alabama west to southern Mississippi and eastern Louisiana. A few collections have been made in northern peninsula Florida. The subspecies is defined by having erect stems, leaves with ciliate leaf margins and fruits with reddish brown ridges. It often produces basal rosettes on lateral shoots that flower the next season.
