Heterotheca sessiliflora var. camphorata

Heterotheca sessiliflora var. camphorata (A. Eastwood) Semple is founded in the Coastal Range south of the San Francisco Peninsula.  It is similar to var. echioides but has sparsely-hairy, densely glandular leaves. Intermediates between the two varieties occur in much of the range.  Its  lowest stem leaves are like those of var. echioides.  It was treated as a separate species Heterotheca camphorata (Eastw.) Semple, until field work revealed the occurrence of intermediates with var. echioides.  The line drawing on the var. echioides page includes some illustrations of var. camphorata. The taxon is diploid (2n=18).

Nesom (1997) accepted species status as Heterotheca camphorata (Eastw.) Semple.
