Heterotheca villosa var. sierrablancensis

Heterotheca villosa var. sierrablancensis Semple is native to mid to higher elevations in the White Mts. of New Mexico.  The variety has ovate-oblong, moderately densely strigose and sparsely to moderately densely glandular leaves. Nesom (2020) treated it as a separate species H. sierrablancensis (Semple) Nesom and considered it to be closely related to H. hirsutissima (Greene) Nesom that was treated by Semple (1996) as H. villosa var. nana. Species status might be justified pending further polygenomic DNA research.
