Chinese Aster

Callistephus Cass. is monotypic genus native to northern China and adjacent Korea. The large headed annual Callistephus chinensis is cultivated in North America. Ray color variation in cultivars include white, pink, red, violet, purple forms. It represents one branch on the basal grade of genera well below Aster s.s. (Brouillet et al 2009).
