Eurybia sibirica (L.) G.L. Nesom is native to disturbed, open, gravelly or sandy areas in boreal forest, wet meadows, open aspen and spruce woods, riparian thickets, sandy or gravelly stream flats, stream banks, lakeshores, bluffs, sand dunes, sandy places, subalpine and mountain meadows Alaska to Nunavut south to Washington, Idaho and northwestern Montana and across northern Eurasia (Brouillet 2006 FNA). The species is very plastic in height and head size and has subequal phyllaries in mid to large heads.  It grows at low elevations in the Arctic and at high elevations at the southern end of its range.  It has been confused in the south with E. merita.  The species is diploid (2n=18) in western North America and tetraploid (2n=36) in Eurasia.
