Bradburia pilosa

Bradburia pilosa (Nutt.) Semple is native to Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, and Missouri with disjunction populations east of the Mississippi River in Mississippi, Tennessee and Alabama.  The species includes only annuals.   It has been treated as Chrysopsis pilosa Nutt. and Heterotheca pilosa (Nutt.) Shinners.  Semple (1996) placed the species in Bradburia based on it pappus traits, chromosome number and karyotype, and annual growth form. The long pappus bristles are yellow to rust proximally, whitish to tan distally (Semple 2006 FNA).  The long bristle pigmentation makes the whitish short scales visually more obvious (Semple 2006). The species is diploid (2n=8).
