The aim of our research is to increase physical activity participation and prevent fractures in people at risk of fractures.
We use medical imaging technologies to explore bone and muscle responses to exercise or neurologic impairment.
We conduct research to inform fracture risk assessment.
We conduct clinical trials to investigate the effects of exercise interventions on outcomes related to fracture risk and outcomes important to patients. We are currently leading a clinical trial called FORTIFY Bones.
We conduct knowledge translation (KT) research, and move research into practice by liaising with government, non-profit organizations and community-based programs. For example, our research team has worked with Osteoporosis Canada to develop Bone Fit™, a two-day workshop for physiotherapists and kinesiologists on appropriate assessment and exercise prescription for individuals with osteoporosis.
We led the development of the Too Fit To Fracture Exercise and Physical Activity Recommendations for Individuals with Osteoporosis, including an update to the guidelines to be released in 2023. We contributed to the development of the Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines.
