We are CURRENTLY RECRUITING for our Virtual Intervention for Vertebral FrActures (VIVA) study.
Vertebral fractures due to osteoporosis can cause pain and disability. There is no standard rehabilitation for people with spine fractures due to osteoporosis. Most people will be offered medications for osteoporosis and for pain, if applicable. We would like to evaluate whether people with spine fractures would benefit from receiving education and training on pain management, nutrition, safe movement, and exercise.
For this study, we are looking for men and women who:
- Reside in Ontario, Quebec, or British Columbia
- Are aged 50 or over
- Have had one or more vertebral fractures that were not the result of trauma, or did not result in spinal cord injury
- Are willing to participate in once weekly virtual rehabilitation program for 8 weeks
As part of this study, you will participate in once weekly exercise sessions virtually. In addition, we would ask you to complete three study visits either in person or virtually. These would happen when you join the study, 9 weeks, and 18 weeks into the study. At these visits, we would ask you to:
- Fill out questionnaires about your background, medical history, quality of life, your confidence in your ability to avoid falls, mood, your nutrition and physical activity habits.
- Complete physical performance assessments
- Monthly fall log
We will reimburse you for the parking or public transportation costs of attending the study visits.
