Dr. Susan McCahan is a faculty member in Mechanical & Industrial Engineering. She currently holds the positions of Vice Provost, Innovations in Undergraduate Education, Vice Provost, Academic Programs and Provostial Advisor on Artificial Intelligence. Previously, she was the Vice Dean, Undergraduate in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering at the University of Toronto. Dr. McCahan’s current research area is engineering education. Her projects in this field include an analysis of technology use in large Active Learning Classrooms; understanding and improving the way assessments of engineering problem solving are designed and the type of feedback students receive; and the intersection between advances in Artificial Intelligence and engineering curricula. Dr. McCahan is the lead author on a first-year design textbook that arose out of this teaching collaboration. She is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in recognition of contributions to engineering education curriculum and is the recipient of several major awards related to teaching and teaching leadership including the 3M National Teaching Fellowship and the Engineers Canada Medal of Distinction in Education.
