Lost or misdelivered shipments

Responsibility

Central Stores ensures that all shipments are handled carefully and delivered to the correct department or location as indicated on the supplier’s label and internal records, through careful checks and verified delivery procedures. While we take all precautions, mistakes can occasionally occur. Once delivery is made to the correct address, responsibility for the item transfers to the requesting department.

Misdeliveries

If Central Stores delivers a shipment to the wrong room, department, or building, departments should contact Central Stores immediately so the item can be redirected to the correct location.

Items that have been misdelivered remain the responsibility of the department currently in possession of the item until they are returned or redirected. If a misdelivered item is used, misplaced, damaged, or cannot be recovered, the department that used, lost, or failed to return the item will be responsible for any replacement costs.

Central Stores is not responsible for misdeliveries caused by incorrect, incomplete, or unclear address information provided by the supplier or requesting department.

Reporting

Departments should report suspected lost or misdelivered items within 10 business days of delivery so that Central Stores can investigate and attempt to locate or redirect the shipment. Reports should include proof of purchase and delivery details.

Reports submitted after 10 business days may limit Central Stores’ ability to investigate or recover the item.

Food Shipments

Central Stores is not responsible for rodent damage, spoilage, or deterioration of food shipments delivered to our warehouse.

Disclaimer

Central Stores is not responsible for loss, theft, damage, misuse, or disappearance of items after delivery has been completed, including situations where a shipment has been accepted or retained by another department in error.

Departments should ensure there is a safe and secure place for deliveries to be left and should promptly notify Central Stores of any suspected misdeliveries so that recovery efforts can begin as soon as possible.
