Offical Launch of the University of Waterloo Centre for Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence

The official launch of the newly established uWaterloo Centre for Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (CPAMI) is held on July 13 at 10:30 am at Davis Centre in the presence of VP Research Professor John Dixon, Dean of Engineering Professor Adel Sedra, Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Professor Manoj Sajdev, professors from different faculties at uWaterloo, grad students and industrial partner representatives.


uWaterloo CPAMI is a centre of excellence in the field of Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (PAMI). The centre is of interdisciplinary nature bringing together experts from Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Cognitive Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Design Engineering, Civil Engineering, Management Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Mathematics, and Statistics. The centre will collaborate with a number of industrial partners from the area and will cooperate with other centres at uWaterloo and at other universities worldwide.


The centre is an expansion of the PAMI research group and has been approved by uWaterloo Senate, earlier this year. The inaugural director is Professor Mohamed Kamel, the inaugural co-director is Professor Fakhri Karray, and the inaugural associate director is Professor Otman Basir, all of whom are with the Electrical and Computer Engineering department.
