Professor Fakhri Karray, the inaugural co-director from the newly established Center of Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (CPAMI), has been appointed recently by the University as a University Research Chair Professor. A statement by the University of Waterloo Provost reads: "The University Research Chair was established to recognize exceptional achievement and preminence in a particular field of knowledge. Your appointment is a clear recognition of your scholarly contributions and I wish to give my congratulations".
With this appointment, Professor Karray becomes the second University Research Chair of the CPAMI. Dr. Mohamed Kamel, a Canada Research Chair and CPAMI inaugural Director, was appointed a few years back as University Research Chair Professor.
