Welcome to the Fall 2016 issue of CPATT NEWS.
Most of you already know what the Centre for Pavement and Transportation Technology (CPATT) is, but for those of you who are unfamiliar, here is some basic information:
The University of Waterloo’s long term track record of research, education and training in pavements and transportation led to the 2002 formation of CPATT. This initiative was made possible by an unprecedented total funding package of $9 million from various government agencies, private and public sector partners. CPATT is essentially a consortium of researchers, who generate support through contracts and grants, and internal and external partners.
CPATT’s Mission
CPATT’s initiative involves an integrated program of field and laboratory research, with the following key objectives: concentrated focus on emerging and innovative technologies, state-of-the-art research infrastructure, increase in the talent pool of Highly Qualified People (HQP) and sustained partnerships. Our mission is to: accept and meet the extraordinary technical and economic challenges and provide leadership in promoting and encouraging research and research activities in the pavement and transportation field, facilitate interdisciplinary approaches for research areas that are not accommodated conveniently within a single department by establishing links within and outside the university, and solicit funds by sustaining membership and partnership as well as by affiliate programs.
The five year plan for 2016-2020, will focus on continuing to develop and expand on external collaboration, and to focus on internal collaborations amongst faculty members in CPATT.
