On September 23, 2021 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, staff and faculty from Conrad Grebel University College are invited to join the Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement and artist Yasmeen Nematt Alla for an evening of reflection and community in honour of Peace Week 2021.
Staff and faculty from Conrad Grebel University College and participants at the Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement are invited to join us on September 23, 2021 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM for an evening of reflection and community. To begin our evening together, we will gather in the Grebel Gallery to tour Not Traumatic Enough for a Shock Blanket. This tour will be led by the artist, Yasmeen Nematt Alla. We will then make our way to the fire pit for reflection and conversation. In this conversation, we will be discussing the ways that we have been affected by this time of distance and disruption and what we need from our community at Grebel to support one another.
The theme for the 2021 United Nations International Day of Peace is “Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world”. At the CPA, we believe that we can recover better by being in community with one another. We have faced challenges over the past year as individuals and as a collective. These challenges will be different for each person depending on life circumstances but we have all been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects. As we begin to experience a return to in person work and study, we know that this transition has been difficult. As a community, we can recover better by acknowledging that we are coming back different and that we may need to modify the ways we relate to and support one another.
