About Global Peace Centre Canada (GPCC)

Global Peace Centre Canada's work is inspired by Malala Yousafzai - Nobel Laureate 2014 and her father Ziauddin Yousafzai's work for peace and education. It is supported by senior academics and civil society leaders including persons associated with the Peace and Conflict Studies department at the University of Waterloo, Faculty of Education at Wilfrid Laurier University and the Global Studies department at Wilfrid Laurier University.

GPCC's purposes are to:

  1. Advance education and peacebuilding capacity in conflict-affected communities around the world; and
  2. Develop a culture in which peaceful conflict resolution and nonviolence are the norms in communities and societies.

GPCC's vision is "a world at peace" and its mission is "to foster societal transformation and fulfill human potential through education and peacebuilding."  GPCC's activities are:

  1. Development of academic and  peace resources;
  2. Dissemination of peace education for the betterment of communities and society;
  3. Fostering peace skills in an inclusive way, especially involving young people, women and minorities; and
  4. Supporting community and societal transformation.

The GPCC team plans to initiate

Global Peace Centre Canada
collaborative work on peacebuilding  process with universities, civil society organizations and government officials in Pakistan to enhance their peacebuilding capacity in the areas of peace education and training. They plan to eventually scale up this work to possible project in the Middle East, Africa and South America in successive phases.
