Bringing hope and healing to Syrian families
As the political climate in Syria changes, many Syrian families are left with confusion and countless questions. In hopes of answering these questions, some are turning to Findsuri for help. Findsuri is a non-profit organization supported by the Grebel Peace Incubator that provides a secure online platform with resources designed to find missing Syrian individuals.
Since the fall of the Assad regime in December, Findsuri has experienced a sudden rise in the number of cases as people were released from prisons inside Syria. With the assistance of government organizations, community sponsors, and local initiatives, Findsuri is working hard to aid families in their search for their loved ones and provide emotional support.
After not being able to visit Syria for well over a decade, Dima Aldera, the founder of Findsuri, is there now, working tirelessly to help reconnect families and supported by a team of passionate volunteers in multiple countries. As the need and the platform continues to expand, they need more support. They have launched a fundraising campaign to raise $50,000 towards their goal to “reunite Syrian families, provide emotional healing through innovative programs, and bring hope to those affected by conflict and displacement.” It is a profound and long journey that counts on the generosity of people.
Findsuri is more than a search platform, it is a community network connected by healing, compassion, and a shared goal of reunification. As part of Findsuri, the Fadfada Program is an online safe space for users to share their experiences or thoughts to build a compassionate and strong network of support.
Along with the Fadfada Program, the platform also integrates AI-powered facial recognition tools linked to an advanced database. By using this secure approach, users can seek answers to their questions without fear. Once they use the platform, Findsuri assists in coordinating with official entities to ultimately reconnect missing individuals with their loved ones.
Dima recognized the need for a platform to solve a platform of this magnitude and began the project as a final year class assignment while studying at Conestoga College. Her determination and constant hard work led her to grow Findsuri to a global level. Findsuri has grown significantly since joining the Grebel Peace Incubator in February 2024. As a participant in the Incubator, Findsuri has accessed seed funding and mentorship, as well as connected with other like-minded organizations. Dima has received multiple nominations and media attention for her continuous efforts to find those who are missing, a heartbreaking and accustomed reality for many in Syria and the Syrian diaspora.
Currently, there are more than 3,000 open cases on the Findsuri platform. Donations from the fundraising campaign on LaunchGood will help expand their website, host workshops, and mobilize awareness. With less than a week left, please help spread the word about this campaign!
