CPA instigates a conversation about harnessing technological advancement to promote peace

Monday, February 27, 2017

In January, an e-seminar, hosted by the Centre for Security Governance, took place on the topic of "PeaceTech: Harnessing Technology to Advance Peacebuilding".

Paul Heidebrecht, Director of the Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement (CPA) parntered with Mark Sedra, Executive Director of the Centre for Security Governance, in lining up speakers in preparation for the e-seminar.

The CPA is on the forefront of "peacetech" conversations as a result of its unique placement between the worlds of peacebuilding and innovation. The CPA hosts pioneers of this growing arena of social change, including The Landmine Boys who are creating new technology to both neutralize and excavate landmines, and Project Ploughshares. Ploughshares is an NGO that works with churches, governments and civil society, in Canada and abroad, to advance policies and actions to prevent war and armed violence and build peace. In Winter 2016, Ploughshares hosted a workshop on meaningful human control of lethal autonomous weapons or "killer robots".
