Doing your co-op term with the CPA this Fall is the perfect way to enter into the professional world, to network, and to skill-build, without even having to leave campus! The Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement (CPA) has hired co-op students each year since 2014, and we’ve had great experiences. This year, the CPA co-op role focuses primarily on executing communications support.

The CPA is home to a variety of people: 5 organizations, 8 start-ups including Marlena Books and the Landmine Boys, 2 University of Waterloo faculty members, graduate students in Theological Studies and Peace and Conflict Studies, and  researchers. So what brings all these people and projects to the CPA? The common thread amongst all these participants is what draws them to our centre:  they are all working at building peace, which is the CPA’s raison d’être. Our mission is to advance peace through catalyzing collaboration amongst our participants.

Catalyzing collaboration in the CPA takes multiple forms, including connecting social innovators to resources like funding and mentors, building opportunities for the organizations co-locating at our space to share ideas, and incentivizing research partnerships between academics and practitioners. There is a lot happening in the CPA, which means there is a continual stream of impact stories to share. The Communications Assistant will have the exciting job of helping us tell this story!

The CPA is a dynamic, friendly environment. Each day will look different based on the unique projects on the co-op student's desk. Although co-op students always settle into a good rhythm, the steady stream of new projects keeps things from getting boring.

With the support of the CPA Coordinator and Director behind them, and with a clear description of responsibilities guiding them, CPA co-op students have the autonomy to be creative about how they accomplish their tasks. We value initiative and want this to be a meaningful experience for everyone!
