After an inspirational opening ceremony at Stirling Mennonite Church, participants in the Pilgrimage for Indigenous Rights departed from Kitchener this past Sunday, April 23rd. Concluding in Ottawa on May 14th, the 600 km walk aims to build support for Canada’s adoption and implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People.
The pilgrimage is co-sponsored by Mennonite Church Canada and Christian Peacemaker Teams Canada, one of the affiliate organizations co-located in the Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement. Grebel faculty member Derek Suderman, one of the group of more than 30 walkers, provides another point of connection to the CPA.
You can follow the progress of the walkers on Facebook and Twitter.
