Peace through study and practice

Michelle completed her undergraduate degree in Peace and Conflict Studies at Conrad Grebel University College and the University of Waterloo.  She later completed her Master’s in Conflict Transformation at the Centre for Justice and Peacebuilding at Eastern Mennonite University, focusing on restorative justice. During this time, Michelle gained a “big picture” understanding of how peacebuilding work fits together, and learned that there is a necessity for collaboration among peace builders.

Michelle has enthusiasm for changing “hope lines” between peace initiatives into tangible, sustainable partnerships.  From performing a theatre piece as a student to support a local NGO, to connecting restorative justice facilitators with faith communities who are willing to offer their space for family mediations, Michelle has a passion to be at the centre of these kinds of collaborations.

For Michelle, the Centre for Peace Advancement is a palpable example of strategic collaboration and peacebuilding across disciplines. Michelle sees the CPA as an exciting opportunity to learn through experience as well as from the journeys of others.

Each participant is working to advance peace in a different way. Some are focused on community building, while others on issues of national security – making the Centre a wealth of resources and opportunities.
